Bailouts and top executive pay cuts
The emergency is over. Bailouts should be as painful as possible. Attempts by the government to sustain companies over an extended period of time in order to get taxpayers’ money back are unlikely to be successful. We shouldn’t try to pay market rates to top executives — we should be looking for an exit strategy for taxpayers and to write off the losses as soon as practicable.
